Canada - Coastal Circle Trip
May 3 - 10, 2024
Our
trip started with a flight up to
Seattle, Washington. We flew over Mt.
Shasta...
and Crater Lake.
We stayed at a hotel in Silverdale, Washington.
This was a view of the bay
when we arrived.
And this is how it looked a couple of hour later.
Talk about low tide!
The next day we headed up to Port Angeles
to catch a ferry over to Victoria
BC.
Along the way, we passed over the
Hood Canal Floating Bridge.
The
picture above was taken
from the viewpoint.
I wonder why the agents at the border stations
were asking us if this was a
rental car.
We then continued up to Sidney,
where we spent the night.
If you watch "A
Martha's Vineyard Mystery" TV movie series,
you may recognize the blue
building in this picture.
It appears as a back drop in a number of episodes.
We saw this critter hanging around nearby.
The next morning we went to Butchart Gardens.
In addition to the beautiful gardens,
we saw these two creatures hanging
around!
We then took the ferry over to Salt Springs Island,
where we spent
the night.
Unfortunately, it was raining while we were
there, thus no
pictures.
The following morning we took a ferry back
to Vancouver Island and continued
to
travel north on the east coast of the island.
On our way to Nanaimo,
we stopped in
the town of Chemainus.
Chemainus was a logging town whose
mill closed down in 1983.
The town needed to be revitalized and
the
citizens came up with the idea
to drive tourism to the area.
Nearly 50
hugh murals were created on the
sides of the buildings by local artists
depicting the history of the town.
A few are shown below.
After spending the night in Nanimo,
we continued up to Comox, stopping
by two waterfalls
along the way.
The first was Englishman River Falls.
The next stop was the upper and lower falls
at Little Qualicum Falls
Provincial Park.
We visited the Upper Falls first
And then the Lower Falls.
We continued up the coast to Comox,
where we took the ferry to Powell
River,
where we stayed the night.
While we were waiting to board the ferry,
we were treated to an air show.
Our room at Powell River overlooked the marina.
Next we continued along
the coast south to Sechelt.
Along the way, we took the ferry between
Saltery Bay and Earls Cove
passing Harmony Falls in the distance.
We made a stop at Cliff Gilker Park Falls.
Unfortunately one of the
bridges
had been washed out and another section
of the park was
closed off for maintenance.
so we were only able to view a limited
portion of the falls and the park.
Across from our hotel in Sechelt
was a fishing pier
with this little
guy on it.
The next day we departed Sechelt and took
a ferry to
Vancouver, BC. We then crossed
over the US/Canadian border and spent the
night in Bellingham.
The next day we visited Boeing's Future of Flight
exhibit
and then took the factory tour where the aircraft are assembled.
Sorry, no pictures are allowed during the tour!
That's All Folks!!!
