Our Trip to the North
Shore of Ohau and
Kona on the
Big Island of Hawaii
September 17 - September 27,
2013
We spent the first half of
our trip in an oceanfront house in Hauula on the North Shore.
Since we were on the eastern side of the island, we had great sunrises in the
morning.
Chinaman's Hat off Kane'ohe Bay.
View from Nu'uana Pali
Lookout
Views from Pu'u Ualaka'a
State Wayside Park
Kamehameha
Statue in Honolulu
Sea arch off La'ie Point
just north of our house.
Halona blowhole.
Kathleen was in search of
the best shrimp on the North Shore,
which she found at the Mackys Food Truck in Hale'iwa
Eureka!
And of course you have to
also have a shave ice from Matsumoto's!
Next we are off to the North
Shore Soap Factory in Waialua.
Kathleen adds her personal
stamp to the bar of soap.
For the second half of our
trip, we went to our favorite condo complex
in Kona on the big island. We stayed in the condo directly above the one
where we normally stay. The is a nice shot of the submarine Altantis
beginning it's runs for the day behind the jet skies rental barge.
And no trip is complete
without a few dolphin sightings!
Showoff!
Our first night's
sunset...It can't get much better than this!
Hapuna Beach - one of our
favorites!
During the evening on the
first day we were in Kona, we were having dinner
and noticed a helicopter circling over the harbor for over a half hour
where two boats were arriving.
This was the first boat, which we thought was the center of attraction.
And this was the
second boat. Turns out this 74 foot sailboat had sailed from
the eastern Caribbean Sea beginning in January and is being staged in Kona
to take Youth With A Mission (YWAM) missionaries
to Micronesia to provide humanitarian aid.
Another fantastic Kona
sunset!
From a secret admirer!
Remember Max from our prior
trips.
Well he was back with two of his friends this time!
One Wednesday, RCL's Pride
of America spent the day in Kona.
Followed by Carnival's
Miracle on Thursday.
This ship originated in Vancouver and was then heading
to Los Angeles after this.
