Our Annual Trip to Kona!
September 3-
September 10, 2022

We missed the main event of the
Queen Liliuokalanie Canoe Races,
but there was still plenty of activity
through the remainder of
the Labor Day weekend.

You just can't beat these views - to the south ...

 And to the north!

Kathleen's secret admirer strikes again!

Sam is still hanging around!

Crab vs Can!
This crab was persistent in attempting
to drag the can from the bottom of the rock
up to the top into his niche.
But unfortunately the can was to big
and fell back down to the bottom of the rock
each time it tried.

No visit is complete without a visit
to the Coffee Shack
overlooking Kealakekua Bay!

Views of the lava lake within the
Halema'uma'u crater at the
summit of the Kilauea Volcano!

It was a little bit of a hike to get here.

We continue our quest for a perfect Mai Tai!

No visit to Kona is complete without a visit
to the Hamakua Nut Factory.

This trip, we took a tour of the Kona Salt Farm.
The farm draws deep ocean water from
2,000 feet below the surface and harvests
the salt via a couple of evaporation techniques.

Evaporative tunnels are one way
used to harvest the salt.

They are also experimenting with hot houses.

The final stage is to extract the magnesium from the salt.

The perfect beach!

Lots of shade and uncrowded.

Ahh, the good life!

It's great to see that the inter-island
Spirit of American has returned to service!

We see our first eFoil!
If you look closely, you will see
the board is about one foot
above the water and
can travel at 20 - 28 mph.

Will this be the perfect Mai Tai?

And that's all folks!

Aloha!
