Our Trip

and Glacier National Parks.
June 2006
Our Itinerary - Billings,
Grand Teton National
Park,
Yellowstone National Park,
Lewis and Clark Caverns,
Phillipsburg,
Bigfork,
Glacier National Park,
Monarch,
Livingston, Billings.
We begin our trip by going across the Beartooth Highway,
when we encountered snow flurries!
We rented a cabin by the river at the Flagg Ranch Resort and nearly
got eaten alive by the mosquitoes. Immediately invested in Off!
We then went on a 6:00 am scenic float raft trip down the Snake River.
We had to get up at 4:30 am (3:30 am PDT) as we were 60 minutes
away from the launch point!
Next, was a boat
trip across Jenny Lake to see Hidden Falls.
We walked back along the shore line (anything to save a buck!).
A view from Inspiration Point above the falls. Hey, they
are leaving without us!

Lewis and Clark Caverns. The path on the top goes into
the caverns, the one at the bottom comes out. It took about
half an hour to trek out from the park headquarters to the
entrance of the caverns.
Our next stop was
Phillipsburg, a restored mining town. The
high point of the evening was watching the dogs come down
to one of the local bars to retrieve their masters!
Our next stop was
Bigfork. I swear the people who run this power
plant across the river from our cabin spent more time fishing
then watching the generators!
Next stop was Glacier National Park. Our first day
we went on a day hike on the Trail of the Cedars
and Lake Avalanche. The views were spectacular
and we had some company.
Halt...who goes there?
OK, you can pass!
Lake Avalanche
You really want to go up this path?
For our next day trip, we drove along the
Going-to-the-Sun Road and visited Many Glacier.
First stop, Bird
Woman Falls
And then the Weeping Wall

Otters in Yellowstone River outside
our cabin in Livingston.
And back to
Billings. We had difficulty is getting a room in Billings
for our final night. Every hotel in the city was sold out. The only
place
that had rooms was the Sheraton.
Now you would not normally expect that much to be going on in Billings
to cause it to be sold out.
The mystery was solved when we turned on the news in Livingston.
Turns out there was a HOG rally in Billings that began the day
we were arriving. What's a HOG rally you ask. Well it's a gathering
of over 10,000 Harley Davidson owners! The Sheraton reserved
it's parking lot for motorcycles, so we had to park our car in the
public lot across the street!
