Padres Spring Training

March 28-29, 2015

We spent the weekend watching a couple of Padres spring training games
in Surprise and Peoria.  We also stopped by White Tank Mountain Regional Park
to check out this year's desert wild flowers.

We started off in Surprise to see the Padres vs the Texas Rangers.
The temperature was unusually hot for this time of year - 91 degrees!
So we gave up our seats directly behind the dugout
and headed for the shady seats higher up.

Hey, anyone see my ball?

Say what!
Say this three times in a row!

We noticed that this year the parks have installed
a countdown timer on the fields
which we think is for the TV commercials.
Looks like they are trying to speed up the game.

(We have confirmed this -
the clock is set at 2:25 for regionally televised games
and 2:45 for national broadcasts.
pitchers are required to have their warm-up tosses completed
before the clock is down to 30 seconds
and the batter must be ready by the time the clock reaches 5 seconds.)

Go Padres!

As you can see, it was a good year for desert wildflowers!

And we finished up in Peoria where the Padres played the Mariners.
Both teams share the Peoria facility for spring training.

What's Point Loma doing in the desert?
We noticed that they have been sprucing up the facility this year.

Boy, he does not look happy!
